The baroque manteau gown introduced color, loose forms to women’s fashion through the use of elastics and folds. A typical manteau gown included variations of the robe, overskirt, petticoat or dupe. Multiplying folds reduces this gown to its essential form, and, based on four elastic bands introduces as much volume as possible through folds.
